- Project Name: Smokeless Wood Stoves
- Smokeless combustion
- Easy to light and simple to use
- Easy to maintain
- Able to deliver the required heating capability (for example, boil water in 10 minutes)
- Able to use a variety of local biomass materials (wood, leaves, coconut husks and shells, etc)
- Easy to construct with non-electric, hand tools
- Inexpensive, target price $30 (labour @ $2/hr)
- Simple design
- Made of readily available materials
- Minimal fabrication, assembly and repair outside of the village, or in urban centers, or foreign countries
- Sturdy, safe to use
Target Benefit
Open fires are inefficient and the fuel, not being fully burned, releases particulate matter into the air as smoke. An efficient stove design would not only reduce exposure to harmful smoke particles, but use less fuel, saving the fuel gatherer time and effort.
